Tour Details

Depart from Alice Springs

The Eastern MacDonnell Range extends for approximately 200 km east of Alice Springs and is every bit as picturesque as the better-known West MacDonnell Ranges. Visit spectacular natural features like Emily and Jessie Gaps, two creek-worn landforms with great significance to the Yipirinya (Caterpillar) Dreaming story as the location where the Caterpillar ancestors met. Take a walk around Corroboree Rock, an outstanding dolomite column of rock, and journey on to Trephina Gorge where the scenery is stunning and huge river red gums dominate. The day finishes at Ndhala Gorge, an important Aboriginal art site sheltered by the rugged walls of two gorges and containing more than 1,000 ancient rock carvings and petroglyphs. The carvings and a vast array of flora, including native cypress-pine trees clinging to the exposed rocky slopes, can be viewed on a short walk.
